After arriving in Ulgii, spend some time relaxing at the hotel before heading out on a day trip to Sagsai, which is about 40 kilometers from Ulgii and where you can meet the eagle hunter’s family. The Kazakhs continue to practice one of Asia’s oldest traditions: hunting with eagles. Overnight in the ger of an eagle hunter.

After breakfast, drive to the stunning lakes Hoton and Hurgan. Hoton Lake is a glacial lake with pristine, fresh water. Its altitude is 2,084 meters, length is 21 kilometers, breadth is 6 kilometers, and maximum depth is 58 meters. Approximately twelve rivers run directly into the lake. Lake Hoton Nuur is connected to Lake Hurgan Nuur via the Sargaal Channel. These lakes serve as the source for Mongolian Altai’s greatest river, the Khovd. Have a picnic lunch on the road and arrive at the Kazakh family late in the afternoon. Discover the nomadic lifestyle and spend the night in a ger.
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner are included.
Take a trek along the banks of Hoton and Hurgan lakes. The greatest larch forest in the Altai Mountains can be found on the right side of Lake Hoton. There are numerous archaeological sites along the banks of Hoton and Hurgan Lake. Picnic lunch in the undisturbed wilderness and spend the day exploring the lakes. Dinner with a local family, then spend the night in a tent under hundreds of stars.

DAY 5 | Western Mongolia / Tsagaan Gol in Altai Tavan Bogd National Park 200 km Today’s excursion takes us to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. Altai Tavan Bogd National Park is located in distant western Mongolia, near the Chinese and Russian borders. It is dominated by the steep, jagged Tavan Bogd Mountains, the highest of which is Huiten Peak. The enormous Potanin Glacier can be found nearby. After driving across the mountain range, you’ll arrive at the Tsagaan Gol National Park entrance. The river Tsagaan Gol flows from the Tavan-Bogd-Uul mountains’ glaciers Grene, Alexandra, and Musen-Gol Potanin. The river flows south through an open valley. Because the river Tsagaan Gol is dependent on snow, the glaciers melt in the summer, and the melted water resembles white milk towering down. Spend the night in a tent under hundreds of stars. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner are included.
After breakfast, the adventure of the day begins: riding a horse. The Khuiten Uul Base Camp (3092m) provides breathtaking views of all five summits as well as the 12 km-long Potanii Glacier, which drops from the range. It is feasible to stroll across the glacier. Lunch served at the base camp. The snow-capped Khuiten Uul Mountain, at 4,374 meters, is the highest of the five peaks that make up the Tavan Bogd Mountains, from which the park takes its name. Spend the night in a tent under hundreds of stars.
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner are included.
Return by horse to Tsagaan Gol. After arriving to Tsagaan Gol, the remaining time is free for you. Spend the night in a tent under hundreds of stars.
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner are included.
The trek to Shiveet Hairhan (3350m) and its adjacent valleys includes some amazing petroglyphs of wild animals and hunting scenes. Spend the entire day in the pristine wilderness. Stay in the tent beneath the blue sky.
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner are included.
After your explorations in Altai Tavan Bogd, return to Ulgiy, Mongolia’s primarily Kazakh region. Ulgii is home to the Kazakh ethnic group, and Kazakh is the major language spoken there. The city is home to at least four mosques. The city is famous for its Kazakh needlework, art, and music. After you arrive, eat lunch at a restaurant and relax in the local hotel. In the afternoon, explore the local mosque, museum, and market. Stay at a local hotel.
