This journey takes place in the stunning Orkhon River Valley in Ovorkhangai province. Ovorkhangai is Mongolia’s secret gem, a miniature universe that highlights the country’s various terrains. The Eight Lakes area is situated in the Khangai mountain range of Central Mongolia. Naiman Nuur (Eight Lakes) was formed by volcanic eruptions millennia ago and is around 2,400 meters above sea level. The lakes are known as Shireet, Khaliut, Bugat, Khaya, Khuis, Onon, Doroo, and Bayan-Uul. The seven-day trip takes place across swift flat steppes and yawning enormous river valleys, golden sand dunes, lush woodland, vertiginous mountain routes ornamented with religious offerings to earth and sky gods, and the eight lakes after which the tour is named. Certain sections of the route are inaccessible to automobiles and exhausting to walk. However, as the Mongolian saying goes, “in riding a horse we borrow freedom,” thus you are free to explore and admire the landscape while coupled with a passionate and sure-footed Mongolian horse. You can enjoy endless trots in the open country while feeling the breeze in your hair. We plan to ride for around 6 hours each day, with a nice breakfast and dinner prepared at camp and a packed lunch on the way.
